On the 7th of March, my friends and I went to the Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre (KLPAC) to watch a play, “The Secret Love Life of Ophelia.” The play was directed by Christopher Ling, who recently received the Anugerah Seni Negara (National Arts Awards) Young Talent Award for Theatre Directing.
Before I enter the hall, I think the props must be complicated magnificent. However, there were only sofas, two tables in the middle of the hall at the same level with the audiences in front row. The play was started exactly at 2pm.
I was confused at the beginning, when Ophelia and Hamlet was in the same stage, but they seemed oblivious to each other and went on doing their own things. Then I understood that they are at different places. The whole play was basically the exchange of interactions of Ophelia and Hamlet through imaginary letters, emails, SMS and phone call.
This play is an adaptation from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”. It is an ancient play but performed in a modern way. I am impressed with the way that the actor and actress acted, they acted so real.
It is a good and new experience for me to watch this play.

ReplyDeletei agree with you about being confused initially for the fact that even though Ophelia and Hamlet were at the same place, they seemed oblivious. in my confusion, i had been disturbed with inquiries as to how come they could not just face each other and talk. after awhile only it occurred in my mind, perhaps they were acting as if they were in separated places. it was a new method in theater which i had no knowledge of. and like you, i agree that it was a new experience of watching theater
